Where are the Deer Hiding?
What gives? They are usually all over the place here. The last one I saw was walking down our road last spring. We have miles of woods around us and apparently they did not mind being in a very busy community, sometimes wandering around in groups of 4 or 5, eating the neighbors trees and bushes. Deer would stroll down the street here late at night, so if you were out late driving a car, you had to be very careful not to hit them.
My nephew bagged a nice one recently and that makes me really hungry for a good deer steak. Our Pennsylvania winters can be so cold here that unless you dress well to go out hunting, it just is not worth the effort. We could not hunt right here where we live anyway, the area is too heavily populated. The local deer seem to have moved out of our area and are perhaps staying deeper in the woods.
It was always fun to pet the ones roaming in pet parks, but the last time I did it, I ran out of the food you buy to feed them and one tried to eat my sweater instead. Gross. They truly are insistent little buggers, look at the trouble this fellow has getting away from them.
I know, I know, they are soooo cute, but deer steaks still taste pretty good!
